Here's a quick guide to how DOCLINE routes requests to lenders:

_____________

1. Route Directly to Library (if entered) ("prefixing")

Library Holdings are not checked.
The routing algorithm will only route a request to a library IF

  1. the selected Primary Delivery Method OR one of the Alternate Delivery Methods is supported by that Library AND

  2. the Library is an active DOCLINE participant at the time of routing AND

  3. the Library is not in the borrower's Do Not Route to List AND

  4. the Library provides the selected level of service (if above Normal) AND

  5. the Library is an EFTS participant (if selected).

Note: Selecting an individual library to "Route to" should not be necessary in most cases. If your requests are frequently not routing to preferred lenders, review your routing table with DOCLINE Support.

_____________

2. Automated Routing Table (using cells selected)

The routing algorithm will randomly route a request to a library IF

  1. the selected Primary Delivery Method is offered by that library AND

  2. that library reports owning either the volume OR year of the title AND

  3. the library holdings are in the requested format (if E-Journal or Print selected) AND

  4. the library is an active DOCLINE participant at the time of routing AND

  5. the library is not in the borrower's Do Not Route to List AND

  6. the library provides the selected level of service (if above Normal) AND

  7. the library is an EFTS participant (if selected) AND

  8. the library holdings are not embargoed (if E-Journal);
Then if less than 20 libraries matched for routing,

  9. the library supports one of the Alternate Delivery methods selected AND

  10. conditions 2-8 are met.

  11.    Then repeat for cell 2, cell 3, etc.

_____________

3. NLM (if selected)

NLM holdings are not checked.
Request will route to the National Library of Medicine IF

  1. Route to NLM checked AND

  2. the selected Primary Delivery Method OR one of the Alternate Delivery Methods is offered by NLM

  3. NLM provides the level of service selected AND

  4. NLM is an active DOCLINE participant at the time of routing.

  1. the selected Primary Delivery Method is offered by that library AND

  2. that library reports holding either the volume OR year of the title AND

Then if less than 20 Libraries matched for routing,

  10. the library supports one of the Alternate Delivery Methods selected AND

  11. conditions 2-9 are met;

_____________

Manual Routing (M/A/N Map: Monograph, A/V or Not found in NLM's catalog):
