How to link GenBank submissions with Sequence Read Archive (SRA) data

Follow SRA submission guidelines to register BioProject/BioSamples (see How to Submit to SRA, A Beginner's Guide). Once your SRA submission is processed, you will have accession numbers in the following formats: 

• BioProject: PRJNA#####1 
• BioSample: SAMN#####1, SAMN#####2, … 
• SRA runs: SRR#####1, SRR#####2, SRR#####3, SRR#####4, … 

Submit eligible sequences in SP-GenBank using the Submission Type appropriate for your data type. Create separate submissions for each data type, and you can link multiple submissions under the same BioProject. When you reach the Source Modifiers step, provide the BioProject, BioSample, and SRA accession numbers (along with any other required fields on the page) using one of the following mehthods: 

• Web form (Figure 1) 

Select and add the BioProject, BioSample, and SRA fields and enter the corresponding accession numbers.
Used mostly for single-sequence submissions. 

• Editable table (Figure 2)  

Add BioProject, BioSample, and SRA columns and enter the corresponding accession numbers.
Used for multiple-sequence submissions with fewer than 1,000 sequences. 

• Upload a tab-delimited table  

Download a template table containing sequence_IDs (and any required columns to fill in). Add a column with the BioProject header and populate it with the PRJNA accession number. Upload the completed table.
Used for multiple-sequence submissions.

Provide your GenBank accession numbers in the subject line of the email. The attached table (see Figure 3 for an example) can be a tab-delimited, plain-text file, or an Excel spreadsheet. It should contain: 

• GenBank accession numbers in the first column 
• Added columns, one for each type of accession numbers from your related SRA data
