In June 2024, NCBI permanently discontinued Entrez Genome and Assembly websites. We merged and modernized the functions of the two now obsolete services under NCBI Datasets.
NCBI Datasets Genome website enables you to browse assembled genomes for your favorite species or a larger taxonomic unit. It also supports searching with various accessions/identifiers. In the resulting table (example), you can narrow the data scope with filters and adjustable columns. The table provides downloading options.
From the table you can access various information and services on the web, such as detailed records for assemblies. An assembly record (example) provides the assembly metadata. It will launch you into further investigation with links to annotated genes, graphic displays, sequence records, BLAST ®, and more.

- For API users:
- If you have been accessing assembly data using E-utilities/EDirect, your searches/retrieval will continue to run. The websites’ discontinuation does not affect these APIs.
- If you are a new API user, see the command-line tools and APIs offered by NCBI Datasets.
